Code of Ethics

Membership of ADSHE entails subscribing to this Code of Ethics

Each Specialist SpLD professional will:

  1. Maintain high professional standards with students and academic colleagues;
  2. Engage in ongoing evaluation of his/her practice to ensure support is appropriate for students’ individual needs and is student-led;
  3. Keep up-to-date with current theory and practice through a self-determined programme of Continual Professional Development in line with ADSHE protocols;
  4. Recognise his/her role as facilitator in the student learning process; to help students develop strategies to become more autonomous in their learning as far as possible;
  5. Respect the confidentiality of the student within legal and institutional boundaries;
  6. Only undertake work for which s/he has appropriate qualifications and experience;
  7. Not use material or data inappropriately.
