The Liz Ahrends Award
The Liz Ahrends Award is intended to contribute to the work of specialist tutors who are supporting students with specific learning difficulties. It was set up in 2008 in memory of Liz Ahrends, a founder member of ADSHE. Liz championed the work of freelance tutors in the development and delivery of effective independent support. The Award is in recognition of the profound influence that one-to-one support has on the lives of students with SpLDs.
The Liz Ahrends Award of £300 will be awarded annually at the ADSHE Networking Day.
ADSHE members who work in a freelance or part-time capacity offering individual specialist tuition are invited to submit proposals of no more than 300 words outlining how they would use The Award in support of their work. ADSHE members may wish to propose a colleague who has made a significant contribution through their specialist support to the development of students with SpLD. In the event of such a proposal, it will be necessary for the candidate to submit a statement indicating how the money would be put to use.
The main purpose of the award is to enable the successful candidate to develop ideas or materials that can be shared with the wider community of dyslexia support tutors. The aim should be the dissemination of materials or approaches to particular issues of dyslexia support. The successful tutor will be asked to present a brief report at the subsequent Networking Day.
The recipient of the 2090 award was Janette Matthews and her project resources are available here
